JYSK Group
JYSK is an international retailer offering everything for the home. JYSK is owned by the family behind the Lars Larsen Group. Founder Lars Larsen is known in Denmark as a leading grocery retailer that always has a "good deal."
In 1979, he opened his first store in Denmark, in the country's second-largest city, Aarhus, where it remains to this day. Larsen had great ambitions, though he never imagined how quickly the company would grow. Larsen opened several successful JYSK Sengetøjslager stores (the store's original name until 2001) throughout Denmark, and in 1984, he opened his first store abroad, in neighboring Germany.
Currently, the JYSK group consists of over 3,500 stores in 50 countries around the world.
The group's annual turnover is €5.2 billion. Growth is stable and controlled, and it employs approximately 31,000 people.
The word "JYSK" has always been a deliberate inclusion in the company name. In Danish, "JYSK" means anything or—like Lars Larsen—anyone from Jutland, and the word is often associated with frugality, reliability, and honesty—three values Larsen himself always espoused. JYSK is synonymous with reliability, and a deal is always a deal.
